Intervention Specialist
The mission of the Dominican Program at Bishop Watterson High School is to provide quality academic, developmental, and emotional support to students with a documented disability. The overarching goal of this program is to help students becomes successful in an environment rooted in Catholic faith formation and academic excellence while simultaneously preparing students for life after high school.
The individual who is selected for this position will work in collaboration with a team of five other intervention specialists and the Dominican Program director to provide special education services to Bishop Watterson students awarded the Jon Peterson Scholarship and eligible for specially designed instruction (an IEP).
Our intervention specialists are responsible for facilitating daily intervention lab periods, communicating with classroom teachers about course work, collecting data required to meet Ohio Department of Education and Jon Peterson Scholarship eligibility standards.
Tasks Required of this position include but not limited to:
- Monitoring students on IEP’s during his/her intervention lab periods by assisting with organization, grade checks, communicating with teachers and parents, and working one-on-one and in small groups with identified students
- Direct re-teaching of classroom content
- Actively modifying course curricula and assessments as needed
- Communicating behavioral observations and/or responses to intervention and its impact on academic performance to the student services team
- Assisting in the implementation of classroom and assessment-based accommodations
- Collecting and communicating data for progress reports and IEP meetings
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Intervention Specialist degree and/or valid Ohio Intervention Specialist license
- Completion of Virtus/Protecting God’s Children Training
- Completed FBI/BCI background checks
- Experience tutoring high school students in a school or a school support program setting
- Ability to communicate often and effectively with team members
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility with a variety of daily schedules and emergent tasks
