COVID-19 Guidance
as of February 7, 2022
What happens if my student tests positive for COVID-19?
Students with COVID-19 should be isolated for 5 days. They may return to school on day 6 if their symptoms are resolved (without fever for 24 hours), and they are wearing a well-fitting mask.
Please see infographic from Ohio Department of Health – https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/static/docs/covid-19-guidance-quarantine.pdf
We will continue to update the dashboard on the BWHS website with COVID-19 positive cases in both staff and students.
What if a parent or sibling tests positive for COVID-19?
If the student is exposed to COVID-19 in the household setting, they may continue to attend school as long as they have no signs or symptoms of illness and are wearing a well-fitting mask.
What if my student is exposed to COVID-19 outside of the school setting or school sports/activities?
If the student is exposed to COVID-19 outside of the school or in a sports setting, they may continue to attend school as long as they have no signs or symptoms of illness and are
wearing a well-fitting mask.
What if a student is exposed at school or school sports?
Mask to Stay and Test to play is still in effect. Students who are exposed to COVID-19 may still attend school (masked). Students exposed to COVID-19 can continue to play sports if they test negative on initial notification of exposure (testing is also recommended 5 days post exposure).
Please see ODH Mask to Stay and Test to Play information here – https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/static/responsible/schools/k-12-schools-quarantine-alternative.pdf
What if my child is not feeling well?
This is a difficult time as a parent/guardian when you are not sure if your child’s illness is due to typical childhood illnesses or if it is a sign of COVID-19. Please keep your child home if they are experiencing symptoms according to this list:
- Fever 100.4 F or greater.
- New or worsened cough
- Shortness of breath
- Sore throat
- New loss of taste and/or smell
- Diarrhea/nausea/vomiting
- New onset severe headache
- Congestion/runny nose
- Fatigue
- Body aches
Procedure for Return to School
Students should be without signs and symptoms of illness and must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication. If children are sick in the morning and test negative for COVID-19, they may not return to school until symptoms are resolving.
Please provide a negative COVID-19 test or letter of clearance from your healthcare provider with an alternative diagnosis stating when your child may return to school. Test results and/or letters should be emailed to aspangler@columbus.k12.oh.us or faxed to (614) 268-0551 before the student returns to class.
If your child is not tested for COVID-19 or is not cleared by a healthcare provider, please keep your student out of school for 5 days before returning.
