2019 Homecoming Honoree is Marian Hutson

Our 2019 Homecoming Honoree is Bishop Watterson’s fourth principal, Marian Hutson, who we recognized at an assembly this morning. Our Student Council President and Vice President interviewed Ms. Hutson and prepared the following introduction:

Jacques-Charles Geoffrion, Student Council President: Today, we will be honoring our 2019 Homecoming Honoree, Ms. Marian Hutson.

She is a very special person in Bishop Watterson’s recent history and has made a great impact on every part of our student life here today. Prior to Watterson, our honoree graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelors and Master’s degree. She went on to teach 7th and 8th-grade history at St. Mathias while coaching volleyball, softball, and track. In 1977, Watterson was fortunate enough to be blessed by her presence and she began teaching various upperclassmen social studies classes — from American history and government to Sociology and Sociology of Family and Marriage. She quickly made her way up at Watterson, becoming the department chair of the history department, rising to assistant principal, and, at the turn of the century, she became the fourth principal at Bishop Watterson.

Cate Monnin, Student Council Vice President: During her time here she always made it a priority to connect with her students. She was one of the driving forces behind the senior trip and eagerly chaperoned each year. She has many amazing memories with her students, one of her favorites being the first time everyone put their hands around each other and sang the alma matter at mass a tradition we continue to carry on today — all while being the head of the Mother’s Club. Not only has she fostered a community here at Watterson but she also greatly improved the student experience. The school more than doubled in size after she took over and she is a main reason we are sitting in this beautiful, new gym right now. She has also contributed to the medical classroom, business classrooms, and Dominican Hall. Ms. Hutson continues her legacy and her devotion to service in the community every day.  We are honored to present Ms. Hutson this Homecoming Honoree Award today and to speak more on her contributions to the Watterson Community.
