Columbus Dispatch 5.25.13 - On May 25th at Columbus Academy, Worthington Christian junior Joel Montgomery defeated Watterson senior Ryan Bibo 6-4, 6-3 to win his first Division II district title. Montgomery finished second last year. Bibo will make his first appearance at state and Montgomery his second.
ThisWeek News 5.24.13 - In the Division II district tournament May 24 at Columbus Academy, the top two finishers in singles and doubles qualify for state. Worthington Christian junior Joel Montgomery secured his second consecutive state appearance after winning his first two matches in straight sets. He will meet the district's other state qualifier, Watterson senior Ryan Bibo, for the district championship May 25.
Ryan Bibo finished first in singles at Sectionals and the Michael and Mark Guza were second in doubles. Those three move on to Districts Friday, May 24, along with Kevin Beattie at Columbus Academy. The top two finishers in singles and doubles at district qualify for the state tournament May 31 and June 1 at Ohio State. more

Bibo, a senior, improved his record to 14-2 with four victories at first singles. Bibo defeated Alex Witt of Kettering Alter 6-7, 6-3, 6-3; Drew Connally of Dayton Oakwood 6-2, 6-2; Lincoln Ficek of Wellington 6-2, 6-3 and Steph Toone of Hartley 6-0, 6-0.

Experience should help the boys tennis team in its quest to improve on last season, when it finished 5-17 overall.
Watterson, which opened April 9 with a 5-0 win over Ready in a CCL match, has returned its top two players from a year ago in senior Ryan Bibo (first singles) and sophomore Kevin Beattie (second singles).
Freshman Ryan Maur is playing third singles, junior twins Mark and Michael Guza are playing first doubles and juniors Jae Suk Dae and Stev Gregory are playing second doubles.
Bibo (singles) and the Guza brothers (doubles) advanced to the Division II district tournament last year at Columbus Academy, where they lost in the first round.
"This is the second year of varsity tennis for all but one of our players, so we have some experience," 21st-year coach Barb Woods said. "All of our returning players have worked on their games and Ryan has a ton of potential, so we're looking for a better season. We have 12 boys in our program, so we have enough for a (junior varsity) team again this year."
Watterson went 2-2 in the CCL last season to finish third, behind DeSales (4-0) and St. Charles (3-1) and ahead of Ready (1-3) and Hartley (0-4).
"Our No. 1 goal is to win the CCL," Woods said. "St. Charles will be our toughest competition and DeSales is good, too. Our second goal is to have a winning record because we didn't have one last year."
Senior first-singles player Ryan Bibo is among the top returnees for the Watterson boys tennis team.
The Eagles finished 5-14 overall and 2-2 in the CCL.

Chris Diaz beats Wellington's Ian Wagner 6-1, 6-0 to repeat as Division II singles tennis champion!
According to the Columbus Dispatch Chris Diaz “cemented his legacy as one of the top high-school players ever from Central Ohio with the victory. He won three titles (he paired with his brother Philip to win Division I doubles in 2008 and finished as the doubles runner-up in 2009. He did not lose a match the past two seasons. ‘My doubles one with my brother (is the most special),' he said. 'We had a pretty good run that year and had a lot of close matches.' ”

Chris Diaz will play for the Div. II State singles title on Friday and Saturday, May 27-28, at Hilliard Davidson.
Freshman year, Chris Diaz along with his brother, Philip, were Div. 1 State Doubles Tennis Champions
Sophomore year, Chris and Philip were Div. I State Doubles Runner-up
Junior year, Chris was Div. II State Singles Champion with an undefeated season
Senior year, Chris advances to the State with an undeafeated season
Chris has signed a letter of intent to play tennis at The Ohio State University
